Proofreading

A gradient background of blue and purple with the white text: 'The final check: quietly crucial' in the center.

You’ve done the heavy lifting. The argument’s solid, the structure’s in place, and the tone feels right. Now it’s time for the last step: catching those lingering typos, formatting quirks, or inconsistencies that might undermine your work.

Proofreading doesn’t involve restructuring or rewriting; it’s about polish, not overhaul.

When to hire a proofreader

  • Your document is fully edited and laid out (or nearly final)

  • You’re self-publishing and want a polished PDF or ebook

  • You need a second set of eyes before submission or printing

  • You’ve looked at your draft so many times you can’t see it clearly anymore

What I deliver

  • Corrections for spelling, punctuation, and grammar

  • Consistency checks for formatting, numbering, capitalisation, and usage

  • Minor formatting fixes or flagging of layout issues

  • Tracked changes in Word or mark-ups in PDF (depending on format)

  • Optional follow-up call

Rates and turnaround

My rates are guided by professional benchmarks set by the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), with a modest markup to ensure sustainable pricing.

Turnaround: 5–10 business days for most documents under 70k words.
